The model of the managed API since 20 October 2026, under the model ID v1.6. The 21 data categories do not change. Against 1.3: real-world field bench 50 → 139 of 186 values, encyclopedic recall in eight languages 34.5 → 81.9, long-record redaction 36.5 → 57.6, 15-locale median 95.0 → 95.5. The 1.6 rules for names on signature lines, middle initials and Polish “r.” dates stay. Span edges are cleaner than in 1.6. A span stops at a line break. Names, addresses, contact details and identifiers lose an edge period, bracket or quote. A Japanese or Korean date stays whole. A name stops at a conjunction or a genitive, loses a Japanese honorific, keeps Portuguese particles such as “da” and “dos”, and grows to the whole word in more languages. Fragments of one or two characters inside a word are dropped. The detection threshold stays at 0.35.

Model versions and upgrades

ShinrAI 1.6.1 (model ID v1.6) is the model of the managed API. The managed API serves only the latest model.

  • A native API request that names another model, for example v1.5 or shinrai-v1.5, answers 422 and is not charged. A request that names v1.6 uses the model that the managed API serves under this ID, now ShinrAI 1.6.1. It answers 422 after the managed API stops serving the model ID v1.6. Use the latest alias to follow new releases automatically.
  • The managed API offers the current release. A new release is announced in this changelog with its measured changes.

Managed API: latest model only

The managed API now serves only the latest model, ShinrAI 1.6.1, under the model ID v1.6. ShinrAI 1.6.1 replaces ShinrAI 1.6: the same 21 data categories, with cleaner span edges. The managed API no longer serves ShinrAI 1.5, 1.4 or 1.3. A native API request that names one of these models answers 422 and is not charged. GET /v2/capabilities lists only the served model. A request with the latest alias or without a model uses the latest model.

API 2.0.0 stable

The native PII API v2 is stable from version 2.0.0, released on .

  • Changes within 2.x are additive: new fields, parameters, values and routes.
  • A breaking change gets a new major version with a new path prefix.
  • We announce a breaking change 12 months ahead. The previous major version stays served during that period.

GET /v2/capabilities names the version in api_version.

  • Document jobs: protected is now the redacted PDF. The protected text is in the new text artifact.
  • Uploads: an upload is deleted when the last job that reads it ends. Create it with ?keep=true to use it in more than one job.
  • Sessions: a session lives at most until max_expires_at. A PATCH with a ttl_s that ends after it answers 422.
  • Job storage: each account has a byte budget and an upload cap. Above them, uploads and jobs answer 429.
  • Boolean query parameters take true, false, 1 or 0. Another value answers 422.
  • The capability status beta and the job field beta are removed.
